I found a local restaurant that actually serves raw food!

I can not tell you how excited I am about this! I thought I had searched the entire state of Colorado for such a restaurant and came up empty. Turns out just minutes from my own home is an organic vegetarian cafe called Tasty Harmony that daily serves a variety of mostly raw meals AND daily has an all raw speacial!

Is it just me or is it time for the "Happy Dance" Balki Bartokomous style? Da da da da da dat dat dat dat da... Hey! Hey! Hey! Or perhaps a little "Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy" Ren & Stimpy style? (What can I say I AM a product of the 80's)

Either way, check out the link and celebrate if you live in Northern Colorado or if you find yourself ever driving through. Ft. Collins is a really neat little town that I PROMISE is in no way represented by the shameful "Balloon Boy" stunt that took off from here over the summer.

Who I am

Hello, my name is Jill and I like to consider myself a "Practical Raw Foodian." I am a wife, mother, and Civil Engineer that prior to this change in lifestyle didn't like to spend time in the kitchen especially when it involved chopping vegetables. However, in October 2009 a twist of fate, karma, or sudden turn to subconcious masochism led me to "Go Raw" after visitng my in-laws who had also recently made the change. Now I spend LOTS of time in the kitchen most of which is spent chopping fruits and vegetables. Though I have yet to learn to love the effort required I have come to love and feel overwhelmingly blessed by the health benefits I have felt as a result of these efforts. This is a permanent lifestyle change for me. The health benefits are so dramatic and amazing that there is no way I could go back.

Definition of a Practical Raw Foodian - IMHO

The most common question I am asked when I tell people that I eat raw food is, "You eat raw meat?" Now, I know that going raw is a radical act, however, it is not an act of stupidity. And eating raw meat (other than sushi... mmmmm) is an act of stupidity, folks. Going raw means going vegan.

Being practical for me means not going 100% raw. I shoot for 50-75% which in is pretty high if you rely on purchasing items instead of growing them yourself. So many products that carry the label raw just flat out aren't. Almonds, cashews, and agave nectar to name a few. But my raw limits don't end there. To avoid having to make two separate meals for my husband and I every night of the week, 3 nights a week I comprimise and make a cooked meal that can be vegan, vegetarian or occasionally include meat. I know this is a no-no in the raw foodian community but I'm not entirely convinced that we as humans aren't omnivores and I'm not morally opposed to humane animal consumption practices. If as a society we limited our animal product consumption humane practices could be reinstated. Unfortunately, we are a mass consumer nation and that makes humane practices costly and impractical in the eyes of the meat industry. I believe we can still eat meat AND promote animal rights at the same time by significantly reducing the amount of meat we consume for our own health and for the health of the animals.

So there you have it. The definition of a "Practical Raw Foodian" as I see it in my humble opinion (IMHO).
